I want a Queen Angel, small to Medium. Want to buy from private seller.

Naturally it should be eating eagerly and it should be bright and healthy.

No recos on "just buy from a vendor", been there, done that and that Queen did not eat and starved to death and vendor had no comment and lets not jump in with what did you feed it. 10 different foods to entice it, this Queen was not eating at the store and they sold it anyway, I dont want to get into it.

sorry to hear. shame on the vendor. i've always been about whats right is right. now that vendor and probably many others will have lost a good customer. maybe that's why there are so many mom and pop shops going out of business

Not a good sign, and a big warning sign that you shouldn't have brought the fish in the first place.

Very important lesson here, though unfortunately and I'm sure very costly. Very hardy fish should always be eating before you buy them, if they're not, then that's not a good sign and you should most likely pass on them or wait until they start to eat.

As for the store, they should have mention to you that the fish wasn't eating and the risk of buying the fish. Also, they should have told you how long that they've had the fish, as if it just came in that maybe a reason why it's not eating. At that point it would be up to you to take a chance that it would start to eat. I've know some places that would actually give a discount on a fish, just to easy the cost of you taking on the risk it wouldn't eat and may die.

Aaaaa, placing some of the blame/responsibility on me, nice.

I have kept butterflies before and it takes a few days to entice them.

I was told the tanks were fed a couple of hours before i got there. The place is small, tanks are packed with fish and with 6 to 8 customers inside its hard to move around, I was not going to ask to prove it on the spot, I give people a certain level of trust and saying tanks were fed earlier implies fish ate.

Last thing I expected was to be sold a Queen Angel that was not eating and yes, this is something the store very much, secondly, it's a wild fish, new tank I figured I would try anything and everything to get it to adjust.

It did not cross my mind to take it back to the store for an exchange for several reasons, for one, I have never ever ever done such a thing, taking back a fish to a store and the second is that the place is in NY and I am in NJ.

I dont want to get into it, stores and vendors know when their fish, especially expensive fish are eating or not.

Now I just want to buy another but I dont want to have to pay store price again.

I would like to add that I have seen stores take fish in BUT free of charge, as in donations. I hate to have to beg and ask and could you please and I was not going to. Can you please help me, can you exchange it, oh come on please. His receipt did not list it as a policy therefore I was not going to go back and bargain and plea. It was the first time I was there anyhow, not a years long customer where a store might be more inclined to help me out.

Not placing the blame on you, sorry if it came over that way, just putting something out there that everyone should do before buying any fish.

Also, it's very important to see that a fish is eating. That line that places give you "we feed the fish before and they eat so we're not going to feed them again" or "they ate and they're full now" is pure BS. If a place can't show you that a fish is eating then you should buy from them.
