I would suggest a bristletail filefish rather than a copperband. IME I found them to be more effective. Not as pretty as a copperband though

Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using Reefs

My copperband destroyed every aiptasia in my tank without harming any corals. A bristle tail i had picked on some aiptasia and started eating my corals even though there were plenty of aiptasia left in the tank

If you want I can give u 1 of my peppermints to get rid of them. You're just gonna have to trap him to get him out when he's done. He started picking at the skirts on my palys after he was done with my aptasia. It took about a week of starving the tank to get them to start feeding on the aptasia, and a week to finish. I had 9 aptasia that I could see. Now, I see none. I trapped them and put them in my sump. I have 2, you can have one. Lmk.

Peteyboyny: Peppermint are a hit or miss! If your feeding your tank, they will go for the food first before the apastia. And one peppermint will not do the job!

CullyisGully: Before your tank gets infested with apastia, don't waste time wanting to burrow someone Copperband. They are cheap fish for the price to save your your system wich is worth a lot more. Beside, I would not want to take reponsibility in burrowing someone fish...if it dies! You will still need to replace it, and one less friend on this forum...LOL

I'm sure there are many vendors here, you have a copperband or filefish.

just my experience. I put 2 peppermints in my 140g. All the aptasia are now gone. These peppermints do eat aptasia. But like I said, had to trap them out when they were done. As far as trapping them, once I got the trap entrance size correct, I trapped one each night. 2 nights and they were out. I wouldn't have offered if I didn't think they wouldn't eat the aptasia. 2 did the job in my 140g. It took a week of starving the tank to encourage them to feed. They hit the aptasia first. Every morning there was another aptasia gone. When they were all gone, they started nipping at my palys. Then trapped them out. I offered one so I could keep one, just in case the aptasia come back. Offer stands, GL.

I also tried the copper and route first. Made sure the fish was eating before I bought him. He died in my tank. Probably my tang bullied him. They are sensitive fish and just the stress of moving him from one tank to another could be enough stress to kill him.

Copperbands are less likely than other butterfly fish to pick at corals, but still can. Same with file fish (which I hear some people are having great success with). Anything you put in your DT that eats aptasia has the potential to pick at or eat zoas, palys, etc. You have to weigh out your options vs your needs and your means. If someone LENDS you a CB, what if it dies? Then you have to replace a fish that you can't afford now. Just saying.

aiptasia x = harmful chemicals to your tank! Avoid introducing unessary chemicals to your tank.
Copperband cost $20 - $30 depending on size

No money to buy! Offer a trade one of your corals or fish for a copperband. Post a picture will make the trade more appealing....my 2 cents.
