Amphipods & Copepods ???

Hello, I would greatly appreciate any advice I can get! Does anyone know where to buy amphipods or copepods on Long Island ? would be will ing to travel to queens or Brooklyn also. Thanks....

Are you looking for them so you can seed your tank with them, or for a specific purpose like feeding a certain fish?

Thanks for reply Kathy. I currently have copepods in my tank but I recently purchased a scooter blenny and want to make sure there will be enough for him to eat. He also eats mysis. So any pets store you can guide me to that sells copepods and amphipods would be greatly appreciated!

I have seen pods in Pets Warehouse in Lindenhurst, Tropical Island, and Country Critters but I can't say for certain that they all have them in stock at the moment. I would call ahead to the one closest to you.

Thanks for the help! I live in Merrick so i'll try aquarium village first, Then go down the list until I find them. I do all my shopping at Mutts & Butts, they don't have any.

A V has tigger pods live. I just bought a bottle but I'm about to order from reefs2go like egriesner suggested. Get the bigger pods from them for about the same price. 500 pods I think.

When I got a mandarin I ordered a surplus of them from reefs2go.com
They took a bit longer than I expected to come -4-5 days (I expected 2-3 if only because I'm used to my fish stuff coming fast).

Either way there were tons of amphipods (I'm sure copepods where there but they are harder to see).

Everything that i could see was alive.
I got the 250 pods with free shipping just to try them out.
I'll be ordering more in the future.

They also have a buy1 get 1 free on their larger packages.

So far their prices are best (considering 250 w/ free sh= $10) ive seen of our vendors and other stores in NYC.

Most others are like $15+ for less than 75 pods and you have to pick up.

If you have a sump. Get some macros. And trade with people. Most dumps are full of life. So diversify. And trade etc.

According to the manufacturer, that is not true:

MYTH: Tigger-Pods are a cold water copepod species and will quickly die in a reef system

On the contrary, Tigger-Pods (Tigriopus californicus) LOVE warm water and will thrive in your reef tank. They are native to the west coast of North America. They range from the cold waters of Washington state to the very warm waters of Mexico.

They can live semi-dormant for many weeks when stored in a refrigerator. Warmer water speeds up their metabolism and reproductive rate. Tigger-Pods will reproduce very well in your sump or refugium, especially if they are fed with products that contain large amounts of brown algae. They can also feed a bit on green algae, but it is much harder for them to digest. Phyto-Feast is primarily brown algae and is an excellent feed for all types of copepods. It will typically take 20-35 days to see a significant population spike because of their slow life cycle (laying eggs, hatching, growing to a noticeable size).
