ive finally decided to give a calc reactor a try...i've upgraded to a heavily stocked mixed reef 150, but i noticed my params may be out of sync. im currently dosing
36ml of alk keeping @ 8.5dkh
18ml of calcium keeping @ 420
216ml of mag!!! can only get up to 1250 (jebao pumps max output)
corals are okay..but no growth over about 3 months.

anyone have a used COMPLETE setup for sale or can recommend where i should get one? i dont mind getting a pricier model if its easier to tune and wont give me issues long run. any advise would be deeply appreciated!!!

That's not much dosing besides the mag that seems a bit high for what ur dosing to only be getting 1250,what test kit you using to test ?
I'm still happy with using a doser and I'm dosing 262ml alk and 168calk daily
And manually do mag every week or two

thats what i figured...i have been hearing. not sure y my mag is so disproportionately high and my calc so low. i did just rebound from high nitrates about a month ago. went from 75 to 5 within 1.5 months. would high nitrates be a reason y my dosing regiment is so whack and it merely takes some more time for my system to recover?

Thinking about getting one too. I heard MTC pro cal will be suitable for me.
Tagging along.

i wad hoping for an all in one setup. i wouldnt know what type of regulator or co2 bottle i would need..or ph probes etc...dont want the headchae of leaks and misfitment. i thought about going to a store and having them set it up..bit that would be costly..was hoping for a used conplete setup from another member.

Mark,

Couple of Q's

What test kits are you using?
What additives are you currently using? (BRAND? ESV? BRS?)
What is your current magnesium?
What is it dropping to without dosing?

Utilizing a fresh batch of water, testing, then using the additive, and checking the amount it raises would be ideal to test the products effectiveness.

I am not sure what brand of additives you're using and that will play a major role in advice, but based on what you wrote i would just match your Alkalinity and Calcium additive amounts to the same ml and keep an eye on it.

using ESV brand additives as an example on an aquarium with TWV 150 gallon...
150 ml of alk should raise you 2.07
150 ml of cal should raise you 15 ppt

dosing 36 ml of ESV alk is raising your alk approximately: .5 DKH
dosing 18 ml of calcium is raising your calcium approximately : 1.8 ppt

Adding a calcium reactor isn't a bad thing and reaching out to bob/joe would be ideal. They both run them and love them.

i use reef crystals for a 20% wc monthly, i use a concentrated (3x) version of randys reef recipe. My alk is fine at 8.5 and calcium is fine at 420. My issue was with the magnesium but I realized my pump head was actually malfunctioning and not dosing when it was required to do so. So now I'm keeping an eye on it when I switched pump heads and so far so good plan to test later today. I just found it odd that my calcium dosing requirements are so low compared to my alkaline dosing requirements if I did equal parts when it mess up my numbers? i use saliferts

geo 612 calcium reactor, reactor media, feed pump, ehiem mixing pump, 10lb co2 tank, regulator. this regulators solenoid is a little sticky sometimes but other wise everything is great. $300 I also have a pH controller you can have with it. but you will need a new probe.

Mark you should not need to add that much mag. My big system maybe twice a year using MECORAL additive. As far as a calcium reactor I run a Aquarium Engineering unit. Bill sell's them ready to go brand new all you would need is a bottle.
