Anybody know where I can get live sand or reef sand for local pickup in Long Island. Could go with Drfoster Smith but would like to support local vendors or MR members if prices are reasonable.

thanks, James

I'm trying to put together a group buy from JC Acquatics. Pickup would be from their house in Farmingville. Search for my thread and you'll see the prices but if enough people join I'm hoping we can get even better prices.

I actually went there last week and was really annoyed because I couldnt find the store ( didn't know it was in the shopping center ) and they dont answer the phone - only used for fax. The store was so/so - they had a wide selection but ( now maybe they just got the stock in ) very few items had prices. They did have decent prices on many items - dry goods and ls - but they didnt have the sugar sized agranite sand. He offered to order it for me but I needed to pay in advance which is understandable. Problem was I didnt know how much I needed and would have had to drive in again to place the order and then a third time to pick it up at which point the $$ spent on gas equalizes the discount.

they never have any prices up there but i bet its still the cheapest...

i been hearing good things about this live sand substitude for cheap. look at either pavestone brand pulvirised limestone or agway "Kolorscape". then u can just mix a bit of live sand. pretty cheap and very effective method.. did i mention cheap?

i saw a few post on RC bout that. Im achually leaning towards the limestone, do a search for that. the main bad thing i guess is some have large batches have large grains. also that its not as pure white as some others.. but still i think its worth a look into it if u want sand for cheap.
