WTB - Live Rock 10-20 lbs.

I'm looking for 10-20 lbs of live rock to seed my dry rock. Preferably uncured since the tank isnt cycled. I'm in Suffolk and prefer someone local though I might be in Brooklyn Thursday evening.

why would you want un-cured rock ? didnt you mean you want fully cured rock to seed your dead rock

Well if I put fully cured rock in my tank ( which will most likely cost more unless bought secondhand ) most of the beneficial organisms on it will die anyways. Then I will still go through a full cycle and lose any benefits in paying for cured rock. Plus uncured rock will have more life on it to begin with ( I'll just have to quarantine it or inspect very very carefully to avoid bad hitchikers).

I think you're not realizing that my tank is not cycled yet so if I put cured rock in the tank it will just have a lot of dieoff and cycle again anyways so why pay for the cured?

Rick, when starting a new tank I don't mind starting it with uncured LR. The reason for this is because the beneficial bacteria we want on the rock to break down the ammonia and nitrites can only grow to a certain amount of colonies based on the 'food', waste and die off in the tank. If you start with cured LR, the bacterial colonies will reproduce but not nearly as much as produced by using uncured LR. That's why some people use a cocktail shrimp to cycle their tank. Instead of using the cocktail shrimp and spending much more on cured LR I like to use no shrimp and uncured LR.

Probably confused the heck out of you, but that is in essence the theory I subscribe to.

no i understand what you guys are saying, but how long has the tank been running ? or the rock you have been cycling ? you will have a cycle all over again with getting uncured rock

The tank is only partially filled with RO right now and I am starting to aquascape with the Marco Rock. Once thats done I'll finish filling it and add sand. This way I will have a better estimate of how much water is actually in the tank and sump.

When your ready i have a bunch of rock for $3.00 a lb. Located in Williston Park. Its uncured as its outside on racks because of a bubble algae problem i had. Its all dead now

Um if its outside on racks I'm assuming your rock is dry. If thats the case its not what I'm looking for since it is no longer live. If I'm mistaken, let me know.

Nope its dead but remember dead rock becomes live rock again. So if you have some cured/uncured rock then it will work for you.
