So I'm pretty new to reef keeping; its been about 6 weeks after my tank has cycled and my tank is going through heat waves; today measuring around 85.5 degrees using the Coralife digital therometer.

Both false percs have died; one died missing; and one died with my hermits feeding on him; which I eventually pulled it out from the tank.

I checked my params 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite, 0 nitrates, 1.025 sal, 480 calcium, 0 copper; picking up the alk and magnesium tests this afternoon.

I have a 37G (30x12x23) tank and have a sundial t5 light over it. What kind of corals can I look into as a beginner? (I'm only going to be having soft corals, LPS, polyps/zoas) and are there any LFs in the NYC area that you recommend? or any online reputable online retailers that sell nice corals at a reasonable price. :birthday:

Welcome to MR!

First of all, you need to get your temp down around 80. anywhere below 83/84 is good, but it's not ideal.

For corals, try zoanthids, mushrooms, and softies (capnella, xenia, leathers, ect)

It's pretty hot in the summer time; especially in my house. I removed the tank cover and have a fan blowing directly at my light and surface of the water. Other than that, I have no other way in cooling down the tank aside from turning on the air conditioner when I'm home.

any tips on cooling the tank during summer time?

Thanks yourbedormine18 ; that link is helpful.

Currently I'm saving up for a Skimmer to add to my filtration system. Is there any specific ones I should look into? I do have a tight budget but don't want to skimp on this. I'll have about 175 Reserve for the skimmer; any suggestions for my tank size. The current bioload is just only one PJ cardinal , 1 yellow rose antennae goby, 1 orange spot goby and 1 blood fire shrimp with 6 astrea, 6 nassarius, 10 cerith, 2 halloween hermits, 10 blue legged hermit, 10 zebra legged hermits, and one nudibranch.

Thanks for the link.. its very helpful.

Currently I'm saving up for a Skimmer but have a tight budget and at the same time don't want to skimp on this. Are there any suggestions? I'm willing to spend up to 175 dollars for something real good for my tank size.

My current bioload includes 1 pj cardinal, 1 yellow rose antennae goby, 1 orange spotted goby, and a blood fire shrimp with my CUC.

make a new "Want to Buy" thread and ask for a HOB skimmer personally i like the aquaC's skimmers but I have never used the Octopus skimmer B4 but I know Leo does sell quality stuff so I do not doubt its skimming skills

I will probably need a HOB skimmer bc i dont have a sump. My tank is a 37G AGA tank (30x12x23)
I have I think "Remora" skimmer that I don't use. It comes with a box and a pump. Doesn't require a sump as it is "self contained."
Looks pretty much like this:

Here is the link
But the picture doesn't show the box and the pump that I have.
