I should have some Chaeto to spare in about a week or 2
Hi All,
I'd like to jump into this Chaeto thread. I just had my tank crash and I'm trying to start afresh. I got a CPR 2.5 gallon fuge and would appreciate some chaeto.
I can pick-up on Manhattan around GCT (Murray Hill) between 9:00 AM & 3:30PM on weekday or anywhere in lower Manhattan after 3:30 on weekday.
Thanks,

Glenn

Stop using chaeto use seagrass.. Chaeto is now obsolete... Like bio balls.. Throw some seagrass on top of your chaeto and watch it out grow it.. Only the strong survive,,,lol.. Nutrients need to go fast, or your just keeping chaeto for aesthetic reasons... It grows to slow I repeat it grows to slow... What you want in your tank is something that will grow fast and get those bad nutrients out fast... Or you could just stick to water changes and no fuge...

Thank you, this is a public service annoucement... Check out Bob 1000's The best thread... For more info pm me for order details,,,lmao.. But it's all true...

That seagrass out grows chaeto???

It took chaeto 4 months to grow and cover half of my 125 sump under T5's.... It took seagrass half of that time 2 months with less to start and 2 of my 4 bulb set up were out... Try some and you tell me what you think....

No the claim that chaeto is obsolete.

As for growth that depends I think. In less than 2 months since the group buy from reefcleaners.org my tennis ball size chaeto grew to twice the size of a football - the official size one. It sits under a generic day-light energystar lightbulb i got from home depot. So growth may vary.

In addition, if you throw seagrass on top of chaeto it only make sense for it to outgrow whatever it's covering - it gets the most out of the light. No?

I'll definitely give it a try though. I've seen seagrass at other's tanks and they look nice.

Bob's caluerpa prolifera or "seagrass" is rooted into the sand which is why it grows faster. Mangroves grow faster planted than free-floating so you really can't compare chaeto to caluerpa because they are not both rooted.

With that said, I have no doubt that it grows faster but is it more effective? I can't say.

As far as throwing it on top,,,, figure of speech.. Place it next to the caulerpa and see which one smothers the other,, and that's the one that will have faster nutrient export...:tongue1:lol Strongest is the one I want to use...
