Looking for a small black false perc. Preferbaly in NJ and not in the 40-70 dollar range either. Most of the LFS around me charge insane prices for them. Yet they sell the reguar false for 10 bucks.
True a false perc is an ocellaris, however there are a few different sub species of ocellaris and false perc is NOT the only one. A black clown is still a bit rare to the hobby. You are not going to find a black clown for $10 as they come from Australia and Australian fish always command a higher premium. It has to do with their collecting techniques as well as shipping.
Mstr, I have been keeping corals and in the reef hobby for over 16 years. So I doubt he has been doing this longer than I have been around. I didn't say I was looking for one for 10 bucks. And they are bred in captivity and not only found in australlia, You need to do some more research on the clown and also on my experience before you comment on it. Not trying to be rude but never doubt the other guy either.
Well I've been in the hobby for 30 years and I've yet to see a collected species from anywhere other than Australia. True there are captive bred specimens, but they are still rare in the hobby, if you've been in the hobby for 16 years you should know rare fish command a premium.
By the way, I'm a Marine Biologist by trade. I don't mean any disrespect, but believe me, I have done my research.
MSTR, I just picked one up yesterday for 30.00 bucks from an LFS. By the way he has Onyx clowns there als for 60, Snowflakes, platniums and wisconson whites also. If you look around you will find them, with my 16 years of experience that is what I have learned. No disrespect but you should know that also.
