Aquaclear is by far the best FW filter IMO.
It is easy to maintain, dead quiet & moves alot of water.
I had FW tanks for over 20 yrs. and love this filter.
Really??? It's gonna be for my sis In law she doesn't wanna mess around to much with the tank. And wants something that would keep the water clean for a long time..... She will do monthly water changes and all....
The nice thing about an aquaclear is that maint takes 5 minutes once a month.
Pop off the top rinse the sponge, change the carbon----Done
You don't even have to unplug it after you get used to doing it.
I would have to agree... I own the Penguin 350, an Emperor 400, 2 AC 110 and some other Marineland filter which I currently use in my 75. The AC110 is very easy to maintain but I definitely recommend unplugging and cleaning out every month. You get to see a pile up of detritus on the bottom of the filter. Simple though to remove everything as you just pull up a basket and throw it all in a bucket.
To unplug or, not to unplug:scratchch LOL
As far as canister filters go. I never wanted to clean, and try to get it started 12 times a year. Also never felt comfortable with the chance of a hose coming loose and draning half of the tank onto the floor.
