Frank is the dolphin air or water cooled, can you tell if it adds heat?
I was thinking of a dolphin or sequence to replace my return pump.

I am putting the red dragon's one shelf above tunzes because I can actually BUY tunzes, can't say the same for the RD pumps.

The dolphin's are aircooled but it does not have a external "fan" like the larger Iwakis. They are quite but the motor does get warm, the wetend is isolated from the motor so little or no heat should pass into the fluid. The rated wattage on their lable is misleading, I have three in my house so I will put a watts killer meter on it tonight to give everyone a true watt rating. Another thing I don't like about AM3K pump is that they leak at the driveshaft seal, that is why I have a spare pump for the two that are running.

Here is a picture of the AM3K in my close loop

239 Watts!!! that is about 2 amps.

This pump is part of my closed loop, about 3 to 4 feet of head pressure. I plugged my spare in to the watt meter and it runs at 86 Watts dry, maybe that is how they rate them.

You make a good point CTX, over time the tunze may pay for itself. I'll have to re-consider them. I jsut wish they were not so big. I don't like seeing any equipment in the tank.

You only need two on a tank your size to keep everything flowing anf happy. A wave box will add the icing on the cake if you can spring another 5 bills. So for about $1,200 you will have good flow but two big brown pumps in your tank, or you can spend $200+ for a AM3K and pay monthly for the power it suck down.

jose, we can make a stream pumps, but it wouldn't save us on the energy efficent part. But turning our existing pump into stream is always a good idea if cost isn't in the way first.
