SO anyone know of any low power consumption pumps? So far i have heard that iwaki makes the most efficent pumps..iwaki and ehiem. What I am looking for is 1800 GPH so far im going with the Mag 18 @ 145 watts any one knows anything that can beat that?

whoa whoa whoa... Iwakis are beasts. They are not energy efficient. Gobble gobble.. Good pump, reliable pumps yes.Try panworld or GRI or something else.

Do you need a pressure rated pump? There is a difference in power consumption between the 2 types. What is going to be your application for it?

the ellusive Red Dragon, I don't think they really exist. I've only heard of them on RC and seen one in a picture once, and it was a blurry picture.
I've done search's to find one but never could. I think it's the unicorn of the reef world.
prove me wrong spykes. show me the way. I want a red dragon.

I heard there is one running in Brooklyn, so the unicorn does exist. I like to get my hands on one but so far finding one for sale has been impossible.

holly crap, $600.00 for the smallest pump, that's why no one carried them.

Thanks v4reef for that link, I had not looked for a while, I'm guessing that's new.
Why are the pumps so much more than other pumps?
I know they are low power consumption by, geez.

By the way Welcome to Manhattan Reefs! Nice first post

Just because you see website that have a picture of it don't mean they ACTUALLY have it for sale.

Jhale, I believe red dragon is a small boutique shop and a lot of the process is manual labor intensive, or, Germans just like to charge more for their stuff.

Sequence uses little more watts than a mag but IMO is a much better pump and a very quite one.

If you a pressure rated pump go with the Genx Mak4, it's an excellent pump at an excellent price. uses about 85 watts and pushes 1190 gph at 4' max head is 28'. if you want flow and can handle some pressure use the Dolphin ampmaster 3K it uses less than 1 amp and pushes 3,000 gph at 0 head. max had is about 18' which isn't bad. and it is the quietest pump on the market I can't even tell it's running on my tank.\

I use both these pumps on my tank. I am very energy and quiet minded when it comes to my fish tank. I used to use the Iwaki55 and holy smokes do that use energy, my electric bill went down $20 a month when I switched to the ampmaster
Hope that helps

glipper i think you have max head and wattge misinformation

i think teh mak4 has a max head of 22 feet and uses about 110-120W or 1.2 amps

a dolphin AM 3000 i think has a max head of 12ft and it doesnt handle pressure very well at all

I'm going to have to put the red dragon's on the same shelf as tunzes's, nice equipment, but I'm never going to own it.
I can't justify that expense. I'm energy conscience but I also need to eat

Frank is the dolphin air or water cooled, can you tell if it adds heat?
I was thinking of a dolphin or sequence to replace my return pump.

jonathan, i like the tunze that it uses very little watt. For example the 6060, put out 1600 gph, and using only 11 watt. That will definitely save alot of money on electric bill in the long run.

Thats not bad, but I need a little more flow that that. I want my sump pump to be my only pump which is why im going for so much flow. I dunno why everyone always insist on having several pumps when one does the job. Right now I have a GenX 8500 which is like 2249 @0 HL but i think its more of a submersible pump than anything. Looks like ill do like everyone else and go with the mag which isnt that bad
