fishing

I took a day off from my retirement today and went fishing in the Sound.
I got everything together in my garage and cleaned out my tackle box of all the things I won't be using today. I got down to my boat, put up the bimini top, got the poles into the boat and went to put the hooks on. Of course I left the tackle box home.
Home is 20 minutes away so I ain't going back. There is a bait and tackle shop near the boat so I went there. $40.00 later I am all set with hooks, sinkers, weights, ruellers and pliers. I go out in my boat and get to the fishing spot. It's a beautiful day, I put the lines in the water, open a nice bottle of Italian Merlot, put on some nice music, open the newspaper and in five minutes disaster strikes.

I catch a fish. Now I have to find a weight to put on the newspaper so It don't blow all over the Sound, put the wine down where it won't fall over, get something to wrap around the fish because I don't really have a fishing boat, it is more of a pleasure, party boat, and I have to reel in the stupid fish. Of course the thing, a fluke is only 17 inches
(I bought a paper rueller at the bait shop) they have to be 20 1/2" (there are no 20 1/2" fluke in the Sound that I know of.
I, of course wrestled the hook out of it's mouth and let it go. (it's a $1,000.00 fine for undersize fish, each) Now my nice clean white boat is full of fluke slime.
Then I got smart and fished for the next few hours without baiting the hooks. I am not as stupid as I look. The rest of the day was great and non eventful.

A friend and I went out to Raritan bay and we were having the same dilema with the fish - that water area has the border of jersey and ny - so we were making fun of the fact that what do we tell the cop if we get pulled over in the ny side "we can prove the fish is from jersey"

After I got back to the dock,(and finished the Merlot) I collected about 100 tiny grass shrimp around my boat. Now thats fishing.
I wasen't planning on catching fish thats why they call it fishing. If I wanted to catch fish I would have called it "catching"

I would but I have to work tomorrow. If I knew this new business was going to take off so well, I would have done something else.
