close the little orange valve, If its a new Deltec you should start with the orange valve around 2 o clock to 3 oclock and look at the water level comming up it should stop at around where the gasket is, below the collection cup, when the water level is about even with the gasket or about 1/4 above leave it alone for a couple of hrs then check back and adjust ... Good luck, Ps you got a great skimmer, should have nP, For the most part skimmers could take up to 2 week to work properly, Just hooked up an apf 600 it started skimming in 10 mins....Your on you way to a successfull reef with good gear

just to clarify the water level should only be visable at the bottom of the neck not the bottom of the collection cup...

OK, I hate to admit this...

After reading all of your advise - and following it - it still wasn't working. I looked at the diagram that came with the directions, and...

I had the collection cup in backward! BAD NEWBIE!

I'm so confused, there's no smiley for it.

I need to see a pic of how you put the skimmer cup on backwards.

I think we need to go check Leslies plumbing set up and give some
equipment lessons.

Leslie let us know when is good for you

Cannot find the camera cord. The Deltec HOB skimmer cup is square with an overflow tube sticking out one side. I had the cup turned around with the tube going into the wrong outlet - oops!

The good news is that it started working instantly after I turned everything around!
