Reef Guy: Jhale gave an excellent link (Reefcraze) about the care of gonipora corals. All the info you need should be there.

Sounds like you need a new LFS. Goniporas are traditionally among to shortest lived corals widely available to the aquarium industry.

They're easy to care for but in time most, if not all, just slow die.

Alot of people get they because they move around alot of the sunflower type has long polyp extensions but most just start to die one polyp at a time.

The one that I have is a short tentacle one and has been in my tank for about 3 months now and everyday I check to see if it ok and is fully openning. Most days it does other not all the way.

Because people are willing to purchase them.

Just like alot of corals and fishs that have no chance of making it, and should be left in the ocean, but as long as people keep buy them at LFS and On-line places they'll keep taking them out of the ocean and stocking them for sale. If nobody purchased these things then places wouldn't carry them.

that's the dumbest thing I've heard a lfs say in a while.
I would have laughed at them if I was in the store and heard someone say that. It's like Michael said as long as people buy them stores will sell them. People need to be educated and unfortunately some lfs won't do the right thing.

do yourself and the goniopora a favor leave it in the store.

unless you are going to have a dedicated tank w/high nutrients and low flow, dosing of iron and manganese, and spot feeding of phyto and detritus every day then by all means...
