Ok I want to get a pair of clownfish. The old problem was is that I had a single clown and was afraid she would beat up the new comer. So now that clown is at my friends in his new home and I now have room for a pair. My LFS has got a few new black perculas in and are rather small. they have a few in a tank and in the tank right beside is a few larger ones. I was going to buy a pair of the smaller ones cause I know they have been together and should get along.I can even buy three if needed. they are all about the same size. But then I got to thinking these clowns must all be from the same clutch? like brothers and sisters? Will they pair off if they are related? A while back before I was a member I saw a trio of black clowns. wish i was here for that. But im worried that if the clowns are family they wouldnt try to breed. The overall goal would be to get a pair to spawn. any information would be greatly appreciated thanks

I recently added a new male maroon clown with my female adult maroon. I first placed the new male in a small plastic continer right by the females anemone and allowed her to attack container for a couple days, moving it around a little bit from different sides of anemone. Once she cooled off I added new clown. at first she chased a little, now after a couple days they were sharing the anemone and its been a few weeks. So far so good.

Since breeding clownfish is your goal, all your answers should be found in this book, available at many bookstores and online vendors.

Breeding clowns is very difficult and most people do not have the patience for it. I would do a lot of research before you even decide if this is something you want to pursue. If you really want to breed saltwater fish the easiest way to get into it is with Bangaii Cardinals. They are a lot easier to breed and can take care of their own offspring to a certain extent.

I would like them to breed but it is not all I want. I wouldnt mind if they just wouldnt battle and just be buddies in the tank. I dont really like bangaiis because they look like fresh water to me. I like have a couple of the same species because they interact more and not just battle for territory. Im going to read up and decide after the swap.
