Finally I got my Dragon after searching....

O have been looking for a small Hawaiian or Jap. Dragon Moray and finally after months of looking I got him. Found many larger specimens but none in the 13" range which my diver friend in Hawaii caught 5 days ago. In fact he caught two of them. Here is my new Dragon. Regards, Tim

He spent the first day in a critter pen so I could make a egg crate cover for the top. The cover is in place and the eel is in the tank and doing well. I put about 3 dozen ghost shrimp in there last night but not sure if he ate any? There is a crosshatch, Tinker's, Black Tang, X/mas Island emperor, a millaris eel as well. I thought the eels might fight but they hang out right next to each other with no problem. There is also a snowflake in there that is being removed as well. I am going to go and get some small damsels today to feed him. We'll see what happens. I'll keep you updated. Thanks, Tim

Hello all, The Dragon seems to be adapting well. Hasn't eaten yet, unless he has eaten some of the ghost shrimp I have been putting in. I put some damsels in but they seem to have made a home for themselves. At least my girl thinks the damsels are pretty!. Here are some new pics of the Dragon. Still haven't gotten that great shot yet. Any tips on getting these guys to eat? Thanks, Tim

Awesome Eel. Definitely worth the wait.

Have you tried silversides? I have had good luck getting eels eating silversides and then introducing other foods.

It's also very common for Dragon eels to go quite some time before they start to eat, some times up to a couple of months.

This type of eel eats fish. So I would try getting some small silver side or a piece of grouper and try feeding with some tongs or a feeding stick.

It would also help if you keep the lights off and let the eel settle in. Most eels hunt at night so this may start to get him to eat. It would have help to QT it for a long period, as it was just taken out of the ocean and could use some down time to get settled in.

I'm not concerned I know they can take quite some time to start eating. He looks great and doesn't look thin at all. Dom how is the Rhino doing for you? Hope he made the transition well. I may just give up a finger to get the Dragon to eat, but it will be my girlfriend's pinky, need the rest of her hand!! I put about 50 large gjost shrimp in the other day but not sure if he took any. The Crosshatch, Tinker's, Emperor and Millaris like them too. I'll keep you updated. Did any of you see that small Mimic Octo at C. Critters? What an amazing animal. Tim

Ill also go with silversides on a feeding stick. Ive gotten all my eels to eat that way. I have 2 Dwarf Golden Morays a snowflake and a Black Ribbon Eel. The ribbon took 2-3 weeks before he started to eat and there very hard to get to eat Your eel looks great! Keep us posted with its progress!

Tim, you always have the coolest collection of rare fishes. I really love your dragon eel and rhinopias. I just saw a dragon eel at a LFS here in Houston and let me tell you it looks even better in real life. Expensive but awsome!!

Well the Rhino was sold Dombowski a weeks ago. Dom his name is Flappy not Flippy!!! Maybe thats why he is shy. I promise my girlfriend with the missing pinky named him Flappy!!! The Dragon took some small baitfish i collected today. Dom are you going collecting this weekend? I am trying to get a small catalufa. I have heard reports of them being around. Tim
