INNEED if that's true you need to slow down a bit and do some reading. It will help you and your future pets. It will also save you a lot of money, trust me.
You'll need to cycle the tank a bit more than your 38G, Rays can be sensitive fish and need stable conditions.

Okay.... let's all slow down here.

Let's address a few issues.
-- We know you want a blue spotted sting ray that's fine.... provided you know enough about it. Longevity will depend on many variables, some of which include your care and the stingray itself (when it was caught, how old, what condition it's originally in).

-- You started your 38 gallon two weeks ago, did you let the tank fully cycle? Did you use established water and fully cured Live Rock? I don't know but you have to ask yourself those questions. Your livestock might have made it because they are hardier or have adapated to aquariums previously very well.

-- The Substrate has to be extra fine. Sugar sized if you may. Stingray's dwell on the bottom of the tank... you wouldn't walk on a floor full of pins sticking up would you? Don't think he would either. You do need liverock but aquascape so that there is enough space for the sting ray to roam freely.

You can even do the "elevated" aquascape if you will where you base the whole structure on 2 rocks and the mound is free floating.

--Lighting shouldn't really matter

-- YOU WAIT until that whole tank is cycled and you test everything. Stingrays are more sensitive in nature than what you have in your current tank already.

i would def wait if u just started. most reys need a well established tank... if not they will die. any signs of amonia and death.

i have done this in the past also... however for a rey or shark i wouldnt attempt having an amonia spike and killing it.

Ok so how long should i wait b4 adding one

short answer - wait a year at least...

Long answer...
I would suggest waiting.. until YOU are ready. Learn everything you can with your 38 first. Learn from your mistakes and from reading/research.

I would put your other tank plans on hold. Put it in storage or sell it. You are asking pretty amateur questions and making some serious mistakes. Its not fair to your livestock. Do not rush into advanced species and techniques right out of the gates. Be a student of the game and you will be successful.

I lol'd.

Whoever told you that is an idiot.
+1
INNEED, you need to do some serious research. I would research about setting up the tank correctly (skimmer, LR in sump, etc.), start up the 150 gallon after you research ALOT and let it cycle and then start with very easy fish, and keep researching, and when you know all about these animals, ask more questions and then try it. That will take a long time. RESEARCH! Dont listen to whoever is telling you these stupid "facts".
