O.K. lets start with my tank cycling for about 8 weeks now it did look like it was going great untill 2 days ago when i came home from work and bammmmm there was a green dusting all over the glass and now it looks like strings of slime comming off my rocks...Also the water in my sump seems to be a tint of green...PLease help Jay..

Not sure. Have you tested for nitrates, nitrites, ammonia. Those are probably important since your tank is new-ish.

Like sidewinder said, test for nitrite, nitrate, and phosphate

If there aren't any fish or corals in it, there really is no need for your lights to be on. Keeping them off will certainly help but there is probably another factor causing it.

you wont need lights when your cycling a tank but I'm curious as to how long you leave it on everyday

I do have 2 fish in there now 1yT and a damsel I also have a couple of frags in there

The water is green or the glass?

What is your skimmer doing?

How long are your lights on every day?

Test for nitrates/nitrites.

Ok here is the results .. I keep my lights on for 9 hrs. My levels are in the safe and skimmer is foaming up great .. Now for the good news I came home from work and there was no more green slime on the rocks and the green dusting on the glass and rocks has faded away....I did remove the foam filter from my sump and the water is only cloudy now!!!!Any 1 have a answer???

you're worrying too much. this is part of the normal cycle, especially when your tank is in its new stages. a uv sterilizer will clean up that greenish water fast

If he is still in the cycling phase, shouldn't he not have fish or corals in there?

tank cycles in 4-6 weeks. those fish are pretty hardy anyways. nothing wrong with trying hard just dont worry yourself nutz!
