local collection tanks

was on my friends boat today fishing and we caught some really small stuff aside from the one nice keeper fluke that we had (22inches)..but anyway thinking about starting a tank with all local fish and inverts does anybody have a tank like this if so share some picss please

Whatever local species you get, you should make sure they are legal. Plenty of info online as far as NY regulations.

+1 to the ID'ing of the fish which is always an issue when folks decide they want to fill a tank with local fish. Once you bring them home and put them in a tank - you cannot put them back into the ocean for fear of introducing something from your tank (and that may be from the other side of the world) into OUR local waters. Think pests, bacteria...

As far as folks here with a 'local' tank - the only one I know who keeps some local fish is Paul B.

There is another issue with a local tank...and that is the fact that it MUST be run with a chiller as our local fish are NOT tropicals and cannot withstand the temps our reef tanks can. Local fish cannot go into a reef tank.

try the greenport ship museum, at the shelter island ferry terminal they have a great local tank.
