I hate the electric bill in the summer!!!!!

What does this hobby due to your electric bill???

Well my house bill went from average $250 all year to $500 this month due to summer. I been running my A/C's 24/7 due to not wanting a chiller but I think a chiller might be cheaper in the long term,LOL
i also run my pool,hot tub, pond,etc so its not just my tank if that what you were thinking....
Just went LEDs so i hope next months bill is better:smokin:


My office bill went from $750 to $1250 this month!!!!!!!!
I have 2100watts alone just on lights for my tanks and one chiller runs 14 amps and another 8amps. This month it has been to hot!!!
I think i have to go LEDS soon....

I need this weather to drop or LIPA will be loving me again!!!!!

I need to go Green in this hobby!!!:groupflip

I hear ya! My electric bill went from $40 last month to $175 this month after adding the tank! Also been running the acs more but damn, kinda crazy.

*COUGH* I know a guy that can get the good LEDS... Plus I'm sure if you go over your tanks there are ways you can trim some of that usage easily.

I have a 'dual rate electric meter'...so for summer, I changed my timers so that the lighting schedule is now from about 10PM till 7AM...not only cheaper rate, but less heat (less AC needed) during afternoon 'heat wave'

I hear you!. Con Ed jack up their rates too. Now paying 200 and up every month. I definitely need to jump on the LED bandwagon. And I thought this was a expensive hobby.. I guess it just got more expensive..

i think leds should lower the cost of your bill.and they look much nicer than any other lighting system out there.

It depends on the efficiency and quality of the LED unit. Not all LEDS are going to perform the same when it comes to output.

I'm with Alfie I'm doing the same my lights come on late in the day especially if you have halides thats the only way to compensate it's cooler at night common sense guys.

Also LED's aren't gonna stop the need for an AC or Chiller on weeks like this. It's been 90's all week and without the lights on at night, my tank is still clocking in at 84-85.

Well with some good leds you should not need a chiller.not even my heatsink heats up,and water is much cooler since I switched from metalhalides to leds.just thought I share that

I tried LED's last year, but I didn't like the dancing spotlight effect on the bottom of my tank.

Now I'm paying dearly with my dual 400W MH's and chiller. My Kill-A-Watt guesstimates my reef tank usage at over $400 per month, excluding how much harder my A/C has to work to counteract the heat into the room from my MH's. :anger2:
