in the past few days there has been an explosion of corline alge in my tank i know should be a good thing but i like to see all the nice things in the tank! my white sand is red and everything seems happy in the tank. with all the corline alge is this a bad thing? signs of somthing out of wack or it a sign that my tank is dooing well and if so what can i do to keep it in control ??:rolleyes:

The only problem I see with this is the fact that you might be mistaking coraline with cyno. Coraline tends to cover the walls of the tank and rocks not the sand. Have a pic?

i will take one in the am the alge is a red slime it also on my power head i can wipe it with my finger if it is cyno is it bad and can i get rid of it?

Cyano is not necessarily a bad thing unless it is choking your corals. It is a relatively common occurance and normal for most new tanks. In an established tank you will see it when you feed a lot or are putting something in the tank that had extra stuff (tap water, food high in phosphates, etc.). You can siphon it out during water changes and when your tank adjusts you should have reduced occurrences.

But you can prob read all of that in the thread John linked. Lol

personally, i am the odd-ball that is not a fan of coralline.
It is a PITA to scrape off the glass all the time, and i dont mind seeing some white on my rocks too rather than only purple everywhere. (dont worry, i know i dont reflect popular opinion, i rarely do).
I have two pincushion urchins (i want more) and they help to scrape some of it off.

thank you for you help

thank you for all your help i have blown it off the rocks with a turkey baster and are running my earth filter then i will vac out the sand, see enclosed pix
