Sump dimension choices.

Choosing between a

48x24x24(120G) or 72x18x22(125g)

for sump application that will house
-1 to 2 2500 type skimmer
-filter sock
-bags of sand
-filter media
-crushed corals
-MAY BE macro algae

Mostly a bio filter type design.

Which tank would you prefer and why?

120g, it allows more room for under tank storage. Also the 24in depth makes it easier to design compartments.

What is the main tank going to be? That would effect the type of sump setup.

I would go with the 120 since it will be alot easier for work. When you need to clean etc, having it spread out is very helpful.

The main tank is deep water big fish at temperature 56F and below.

HAHA,
I don't know. It's there already-the guy who built it does not know either and I have not bother to measure. I assume around 300G visually.

Without knowing the dimensions I can't be 100% but I would imagine the 120 would be the best option just because it should be able to keep it's core temp better than the 125 which would reduce the power consumption of the chiller at least a little, especially if you insulate it.

+1 Due to less perimeter surface area
