Well since youre worried about it falling through the floor, I have a solution! The key is to spread the weight accross more floor joists. One way to do that is:

i would keep the 90g for a while (didn't you set it up a few months ago anyway). enjoy it, make this tank work and go bigger when you know you've MASTERED the 90g, that's my new philosophy. we're all really outta control here. sorry to poop everyones party....you can never have every coral in your tank (well, maybe thats not true for the 5000g guy).

I say treat like relationships with girls....lol....instead of falling head over heels outta control (puppy love) with the upgrade syndrome, take it nice and slow, learn from each tank....figure out what you really like (not what your impulses tell you).

if all of this doesn't make sense then go bigger.

Man, tough crowd. Brother came in here for some help. If you posted this question here, I think you've already made up your mind since you know none of us will talk you out of it. Hope your wife doesn't kill you.
I started this hobby with a 10. 10 became 55 in less than 2 months. I bought a house and 55 became 90. I didn't like the way the guy who built my tank designed the top and the over flows, so I got rid of it. 90 became 180. My sump went from my stand, into my basement. I just built a frag tank and added it to my system THIS WEEK and I already want to make that bigger. We're bad.
If you don't have a chiller that can handle a 140, I would consider waiting until after the summer to upgrade. It would suck to stock the tank only to have die-off due to heat. As other members mentioned, bigger tank = bigger skimmer, bigger chiller, more lights, flow, electricity, etc.
I don't know much about the structure you live in, so I can't comment on the strength of your floor. Just keep in mind you will be adding a minimum of 400 pounds.

There you go Mike... a voice of reason. As for the structure part, best thing to do is go through an architech or engineer. I work with collapses a lot and know some numbers as to how much weight you can handle, but keep in mind that the work I do only has to be good enough to get a construction crew there. For the most part, our floors can handle a lot of weight. Most people could park an SUV in their living room wihtout a total collapse. Over time though, you are going to have some sagging. If the floor below you is empty (basement), I would built a closet under the tank on the floor below. The same size as the tank. This would give you all the support you need. If your in an apatment though, this is out of the question.

Chris not if your neighbor wants a new closet LOL. But I agree with slam and chris. Wait for a little while. If the deal for the new tank is too good to be true get the new tank and store it till after the summer.
