NY has really low tds readings. the national average is 150.
I've read that people have readings way into the hundreds on RC.
even after an RO filter they are happy if they are reading 50.
I freak out if mine goes over 2.
The readings on my tap water is in the 40's, with the RO it's 0 or 1. The tap water does leave a film in the bowl if you let it sit for a couple of days. I use to see it in my cat water dish, before I switch his water over to RO.
I think most of us grew up drinking tap water.
Do kids these days even know what tap water tastes like?
I wonder what was in all that water I drank from the fountains in public school?
I'd like to carry a TDS meter with me for a little while and test the water where ever I am. Do you think it would freak people out if you tested a glass of water in a resturant, and then shook your head and said, oh this is not good.
he he, that would be fun. perhaps pull over the manager and say something like "The TDS in your water is reading above acceptable levels and is in violation of MR codes. I can of course keep my mouth shut if the meal is complimentary."
wow 30's and 40's that really low most ppl from from other states are happy with 15 after it goes through the R/O. Well thats good for us that means our membranes will never go bad!
Yeah, NYC Water comes from the Croton Resevoir and uses the Sprain Lake Resevoir as a reserve. Ossinging water (which is only like 10 miles south of the Croto Resevior) gets it's water from the Catskills watershed - go figure 0 but yeah, 270, crazy that my RO DI unit can get it to 0-
i would guess that NYC has much more advanced water treatment facilities that just cleans it out better.
I bet the source water would have similar TDS levels - they're not feeding you radioactive water up there.
I got, actually my co-op got, a NYS water report which show all the kinds of things that are in the water. You'll find everything from copper to calicum in very low %.
You can go here if you want to check out your water sheds water quality and your tap water quality. It also gives you tables as to what is acceptable levels of gunk that the Gov. feels you and your family can take.
