You people are all thinking too small,
My dream is to buy a house in sydney Australia, with an inground pool and convert that into a salt water rockpool/coral reef.
I actually have a friend in sydney who is in this position and is considering doing it. He owns a huge aquarium and coral propagation business in sydney so he gets everything wholesale.
His pool is the perfect candidate for this, it is on a hill so on the low side you could cut the concrete to put in a massive viewing window. (i'm drooling just thinking about it)
i would like something i can swim in and piss in without any worries. j/k
i feel like my 120 is a hassle already, so i dont know if i can handle the huge tanks. maybe around twenty more years of experience i'll go to florida and setup on of those green house proprogation setups. wouldnt it be awsome to have the MR logo in FL hehhe
well aaron, if we're talking about moving then I want a piece of property on a nice island, I'd have a tank the size your talking about with two pipes. one taking water in from the ocean, the other pushing it out. the only thing left to do is scrape the glass and collect creatures for your pool. spykes you could come and piss in my reef anytime, it would not make a difference
in fact your all invited, not to pee, but to visit.
Jon that would be ideal! I knew a guy who had 2 90gal tanks on his house boat/barge and he had a constant supply of seawater running through the tanks. He kept all local fish and crustations but it was still cool.
If I had the budget, I'd go with something like Mr4000's tank. It's gone now, but dayum, htat tank rocked. soemthing like 15'x12'x8' Yeah. feet. he had pics of him scubadiving just to clean the thing.
But I'd have to have a house first.
While I'm apartment living, (IE until I buy) I'm sticking with my 20. 25% water change is a 5 gallon bucket!
OMG .. LOL.. Guys you gotta wake up from your day-dream
.. Come, come back to reality... There is noway you guys could have that much time to spend on a huge tank... I think a 180 gal is good for me, as not too much of a hassle and easy to work with..
I havent seen any mention of cube lovers like myself. My dream tank (that i think i can maintain) would be a 36"L 36"W 36H" Starphire Killa Cube (202 gallons) . Maybe even make that jammy 4-sided w/ an overflow tower in the middle and a crazy aquascape. 3-sided and the options for aquascaping are endless. I would make it a mixed 60% SPS 40% LPS reef. Damn im getting antsy just thinking about it.hehe
