recently noticed some red spots (freckled) on my nasos face between his mouth and i guess nose but only on one side. also his eye looked to be swollen. as days have past the spot turned from red to black and are getting large. looks like one black spot now. also noticed a small bulge on his other side under his dorsal but seems to be getting smaller. hard to get good pics but i'll try. any ideas? and he still eats like a pig! oh and some rapid short breathing but is active

I have 21 fish in there. He's the only one breathing fast. He seems normal. Actively swimming and eating. Def not ich. Looks like a pimple. Not that salty look. But thanks anyway

that's kinda what i was thinking because i just picked up a rbta around the same time. i assumed fish knew better than to tangle with an anemone. the swelling would appear to be an infection under what looks like burned skin. i have been mixing pima fix and mela fix with the food. but i'm gonna try to catch him and treat him in a separate tank. will keep an update.

I would have to agree with Mike, the pics aren't great but I would go with bacterial infection at this point. Pima Fix is an anti-fungal and the Mela Fix is bacterial. I would remove it if you can and treat accordingly. At this point I wouldn't hold out too much hope as the infection looks pretty advanced and with that kind of proximity to it's head if it gets worse after removal and treatment you might want to euthanize the fish so it doesn't suffer. You might start seeing seizures and other issues cropping up if it doesn't respond to the meds.

The infection is probably secondary to the wound you described so treat for that first and then once the infection starts to subside, if you still think it's a parasite, you can start treating for that.

I know it looks bad. But it's as though he's not affected. I have high hopes. It's been a week now. I wanted to give him more tome to see if it goes away on it's own. If I don't see any improvement over the next few days. Then I will try and take him out. Don't really wanna stress him anymore. But he's active and eating

I wouldn't necessarily mix the Prima-fix & Melafix with the food. It isn't supposed to be used that way but added to the water.

If he is an easy to feed fish, you might try something like this:

I have never used this particular product but did use a similar gel based antibiotic medication successfully in one of my FW tanks.

I would be 100% sure my water was pristine and add a vitamin - like Selcon - to the food. Be sure to be feeding a balanced diet too.

I really dont think its parasitic at this point more bacterial but hopefully soon the swelling will subside followed by the wound healing. I was adding it to the water. But I wanted to try to get it to his system directly. But I will try your suggestion. As for the balanced diet. I try to mix things up for them. I use prime reef flakes. Tetramarine pellets. Nori. Mysis. And Spirulina. Sometimes a concotion sometimes separate sometimes garlic soaked. Is that balanced?

That is an infection of some sort. Its hard to tell in the pic if its viral or bacterial but I would lean towards viral. :( I can't provide more detailed info based on those pics I would need a close up. Read up on Viral infections in Marine fish and see if you can find symptoms that match what you are seeing. viral infections traditionally are not easy to treat.

It's getting worse. To the point that the skin is eroding. It's killing me because he seems just fine. Do I risk taking him out. Adding more stress to injury. And attempt a treatment. If so what is there for infections. Be it viral or bacterial. OR just let him be and risk it healing on it's own. As of now I'm leaning towards removing and treating. It's like 2face from batman one side is perfectly normal. And the other is hideous!
