After more than 18 hours I finally got the new tank filled. I turned on the pump and was totally floored by how loud this tank is. It sounds like Niagra Falls! It's in my living room and there is no way I can live with it this loud. Below is a photo of the plumbing.

Though you can't see it, there is a durso stand pipe that feeds the 1.5" drain and it has the small air hole in the top. I'm desperate and exhausted - tank set up always taked 3-4 times longer than planned. So, can anyone help me fix this before I go totally insane?

You should be able to adjust the durso but it may take a few days to really quiet down naturally.

We just fixed the plumbing on a 400gal tank where we removed the in stand sump and pipes and added a much larger system down on the first floor. We had to increase the return and supply lines because we used two larger pumps and added a significant amount of filtration. The tank is in the living room right in front of the client's desk and when we fired it up the rushing water was pretty loud. A few days later when we checked back it had gotten much quietter on it's own. The pipes just need time to grow a thin coat of film and the system shouldn't be as loud. Temporarily, if you can't take it just raise the durso pipes a little so the water doesn't have as far to fall. If the noise is in the stand you may need to adjust some of the plumbing.

That "T" right off the pump is installed incorrectly though, you would probably notice a small increase in flow if you can get that turned around the right way.

The noise is coming from the sump. The durso is not adjustable, but if you know where I can find one that is that would be awesome. How should the T be adjusted?

Call premium aquatics, they sell 1.5in GEO aqua silencers that are adjustable. They're very good.. Is the sound from splashing in th sump, does it sound like water surging?
