acan coral bleaching?

Can someone please help me. A friend gave me a acan coral and is bleaching. what causes this coral to bleach? This coral was given to me last night i really don't know his parameters but i can give you all information on mine.
I have a 90 gallon tank with T5 and some LED's. Have a skimmer and a refuge separate to the sump. I places them at the bottom of my tank with my other acans. Just want to know what can i do to help them? Thanks

the bleaching started in my friends tank but i have 324 watt in my T5 and 32 watts in my LED.

so your running 356 watts of light and total and your acan are still alive wow. but anyways where did he have the acan he gave in hes tank?

A 6 bulb over a 90 is not that bad, it's a somewhat deep tank. Definitely a lot of light. Have you tried shading it, not just putting it low in the tank?

all mine are fine he had them up high in his tank so it my have been that he had to much light on them? all mine are in the bottom of the tank in the sand and there perfect. what can i do for them to try and safe them...should i put them in a shade? my tank is 24 inch deep. i was told i didn't have a lot of light..

who told that the lights didnt have to do nothing with the corals? The lights are the source for the corals to grow.

The wattage of light doesn't matter, it's placement. The acan was obviously too high up in the tank put it on the bottom of the tank shaded area could help if possible but definitely on the bottom also try to target feed it. A turkey baster can work ok to feed corals but a syringe (no needle) is definitely the best bet.

+1 on triggerman, get it on the sand bed and if you notice its still suffering put in the shade a little.

put half in the shade and half in the light in the sand bed... and +1 for target feeding

Just wondering here. Did you dip it before putting it in your tank?

^ was thinking about suggesting that... some dips actually help regrow skeletal tissue...although i have herd that some dips can irritate corals... do some research.... not sure how acans behave to dip....never had to dip mine before...

by the sound of it, you can only do so much... you say the coral was given to you bleached?? bleaching can be b/c of a number of things... does'nt mean that your coral will necessarily die, but it does not come back overnight... be patient, i have had sereval types of coral take up to 6 months to recover from bleaching.... had mushrooms take up to a year to come back to full color.... keep a close eye, def +1 on target feeding if u can......

I was just hoping that they were dipped because he has other Acans in his tank already. If they were receding or bleaching already they may have had another issue besides light. Wouldn't want to see the other Acans catch something from the new guys.
