As long as you place the tank properly the weight shouldn't be an issue. 180 isn't a size I would be concerned about too much unless it's an older house with issues.

I agree. An even distribution of that size will not be a problem. Make sure to have it level and if you are still hesitant, look into some floor support. I'm not the flooring expert because I never had any problems with weight, so I never had to go through a structural upgrade. However I've seen many people support the floor with a dark, flat looking panel, I forget what the name was.

But as stated, you shouldn't have an issue.

I have a 180 end to end with a 120 gallon with about 400lbs of rock in them combined in a second floor apartment. 9 years now and nothing has ever happened. We did have a contractor come in and check it out first though. not a bad idea if you ask me

What about all those water beds that were put in second floor bedrooms? Way more than 180 gallons of water. The Soma tube bed I had did fine on the second floor. As most tanks are placed against a wall I wouldn't think there would be an issue unless the house is more than 50+ years old.

the main thing is to verify the way the beams run, if they run away from the wall you are thinking of putting it on, np.. make sure you are across as many as you can. if they are running the other way and now your tank is being supported by only 1 or 2 beams.. eh i wouldnt sleep comfotable that way.. i would be adding 1 or 2 sheets of 3/4" plywood on the floor in the footprint of the tank to stiffen it and tie it into the beams.. would think abt that anyway.. if you have access to the beams under the floor it wont hurt to cross brace them and tie them together like a grid under the tank..

waterbeds spread the weight out over 6foot by 6ft and dispursed the weight.. a 180g tank fully loaded is like parking a small car in your living room but only using 2 beams to hold it up. in a 6ftx2ft foot print
