Not much people use it here in MR.
How's your tank going? Is it up yet?

I should set it up by this weekend. I have to test the overflow, sump, return pump......72 bow is kind of big for rookie. So it's take some time.

Actually 72 is a really good size. You want to go bigger not smaller.

Deadfish, Read this article, its an analaysist on miracle mud.

Conclusions

The analysis indicates that Miracle Mud is 30% silicon. This mostly likely exists in Miracle Mud as silicon dioxide, which is most commonly found in nature as quartz. As pointed out by chemist Randy Holmes-Farley, the molecular weight of silicon makes up less than half the molecular weight of silicon dioxide. So if the silicon present is all in the form of silicon dioxide, then Miracle Mud is more than 63% quartz sand. This seems to be confirmed by the photos.

The high levels of metals (especially Aluminum, Iron and Titanium) are also a point of concern.

"In addition, no traces of any marine sediment were found in any microscopic examination - no oolitic sand grains, no shell fragments, no diatoms or any other remnants of marine life. An acid test conducted by Shane Graber indicates that no carbonates are present in Miracle Mud. It is difficult to reconcile these facts with the manufacturer's claim that "Miracle Mud is 80% oceanic mud.""

Hey DeadFish,
Welcome to MR, I totally agree with Deep, watch out for the bug.
I use MM in my 75 gal. and had more activity when I just used sand. But I don't see anything wrong with it. I will know more when it matures..

Hahah, took you forever though :turtle:....Steve can set that up in less than a week :lol2::lol2::lol2:

As for miracle mudd, I say it's kind of waste on the $$$. But if you want to try it, it's no harm. But i would put my money somewhere else. Have lots of fun and good luck.

Oh, your in trouble, joining MR means, emptying your wallet. You'll get to know more and buy more....lolz

I use MM, but only in the beginning stages. I wanted to find out for myself if it is what they claim. I've heard n seen good reefs being supported by them. I've also read many on forum trashing it. In this hobby, you will encounter many issues like this.
Rule of thumb::: Do your own research and decide for yourself. Don't just go with 1 source.

deadfish, WELCOME TO MR!

IMO, if you wanted to give the MM a try, you should set it up in a refugium setup that you plumb remotely and isolated from your display. This way if you found out down the road that you wanted to remove it, you would not have to concern yourself with tearing down your entire tank (or a major part of it). All you'd have to do would be to take your fuge off line and remove the MM.

I agree with reefman, I believe Deepwater was referring to 'catching the bug' = getting addicted to the reefing hobby.

A 72 bow is a great size starter tank. My very first (and still largest) tank is/was a 75.

Good luck and ask questions.
