I've heard its a spring time thing for what ever reason Red slime algae comes every spring on some tanks.
I don't know if that's true for this is my first spring.
Do the red slime chemicals work?
What do you recommend if they do?
Thanks for your help as always.

Yes they work, but u have to be careful..
I used Cyano solution. It worked. My skimmer went nuts for a week after. Be sure to gave fresh carbon on standby, and a waterchange ready.

It does but it is the nuclear option.

Better to use Microbe Lift or Microbactor and keep on top of nutrients.

May be more invasive due to more sunlight getting into houses and people spending more time outdoors and less on tank maintenance.

Best way is to remove it manually when u do your water changes if the water chemistry is good it won't be a problem higher flow helps . Chemicals kill good bacteria that's why the skimmers r going nuts I would not recommend using any kind of chemicals in your tank even if it says reef safe .

They definitely work, I constantly get it on a single small area. Its weird, because that area has good flow and far from the feeding station.
I'd recommend that you start with half the dosage and shut down your skimmer for 12 hours after the dosing. At least with my skimmer the first 12 hours I get only tea water and overfills the collection cup.

x2..it will work, but it's an indiscriminate killer...wiping out many strains of good bacteria as well which may cause a mini crash...I've used Special Blend and it does work just takes longer...as mentioned control the excess nutriants which is what it's feeding off...the SB is a bacteria which basically out competes the cyno for nutriants..

I just got back form M&B picked up some more Cerith snails for now. Think ill look into Dr. Tim's Waste away.

your gonna love this stuff...don't worry if the tank gets cloudy a bit after initial first dose it will go away and you'll have sparkling clear water I really couldn't believe how polished the water became and it's suppose to work on the red slime just as good

Increased flow, water changes and running carbon is the best way to get rid of it.

already noticing a change in color in the cyano as of last night/this morning 4 days into using waste away, it is going from red to a whitish/pale color, an indication to me that the bacteria are starting to break it down. I'll keep you posted but it appears to be working

The problem with red slime remover and how it removes cyano makes it worse the next time.
It will kill and dissolve the slime into the water. All the phosphates and nitrates that the red slime removed from the water is now back in your water. Now you need to remove all that water or you will be fueling a stronger outbreak.
You can't remove it through water changes because it continues to diffuse in the water. So you will have a red slime again and now you are right back where you started.

It is never the answer, just a bandaid.

+1 medications don't discriminate, they kill all bacteria including the good ones. A natural remedy is the way to go.
