Muriatic Acid

Has anyone here ever used Muriatic Acid to remove thick coralline algae in there tank? I have an old tank that I'm looking to clean out and read that Muriatic Acid could remove the thick deposits of coralline algae. Anyone have any experience with this?

It will work fine-- dilute it in tap water and wear thick gloves. Vinegar would be a cheaper and less noxious alternative.

White vinegar? Would I need to dilute the vinegar?

I used it to "cook" my live rock and it worked well, but the pump I used went bad a month later and I had to replace the impeller. You will have to be careful with the seals on the tank.

+1 Randy, vinegar is going to be less expensive and much safer for your equipment. No it doesn't have to be diluted.

I would lay the tank flat on the side you want to treat and seal it if you need too. That way you don't have to use a gallons of vinegar.

If I did use the acid I'd only you it to clean the tank, but I would be concerned about the silicone being affected. I'll stick to the vinegar.
