yeah but why put something in your tank that's going to make it harder to keep ?
I had a CC bed in my old 55, I tried to keep it clean but there was no way to keep up with the nitrate factory it became.
In a frag tank I would not want to be performing maintenance all the time, you risk making more frags than you'd want ;)

I agree with jhale, why put a time bomb in there?
Why make extra work for yourself & possibly disturb your creatures?
I had one in a 40g, along with an undergravel filter (back in the days, 97 I believe it was) & the nitrates were so high. It killed any fish I put in within a week & I vowed never to do saltwater again.

If I had to use CC in a tank, it would definitley be without fish or in a fuge/sump, but only if the water coming in was pre-filtered through a 1 micron filter.

FYI

Feed for the fuge is a set of 1 micron filter bags. Water goes through that, into the sump, then into the fuge and frag tank. I am also thinking of putting my pistol in the frag tank on the bottom so he can keep moving around the CC. BTW, the CC is only about an inch deep, so not an issue for me.

Worse case, I scoop it out and go with BB
