I'm only about 6 months in and still loving just about every bit of it, but I'm noticing a lot of reefers that use to be full balls to the wall reefing last month are now what seems to be suddenly getting out.

For thouse reefers that have been around for a long time is this a normal ucurance? Do people get in over their heads? Is this a case of to much to fast to soon? Do they get burnt out?

I guess Im just looking to see if there is a rime or reason and something I mite be able to look out for to prevent this from happening to me down the road.

Experianced reefers advice & opinions appreciated.

Thanks
MikeC

There are many different reasons people get out. Sometimes this hobby can consume every ounce of energy you have sometimes it's a matter of family comes first and you have to do what you have to do. You never know what the future holds and each circumstance is different. You can dump thousands of dollars into a tank and have a total loss in the matter of minuets and sometimes it's too much to handle... You can do everything right and take every precaution known to man and still have a crash... And then some people just loose interest..

like all hobbies... it can get time consuming and slowly take away from your life.
you get into hobbies, you get out of hobbies... nature of things.
some find there way back... others are out for good. sometimes you need to take a step back to wonder if what you did was either worth it or a waste. also keep in mind... during summertime it's a breaktime especially if you have a family and plan on going away on long vacations and have one less thing to worry about.

its a huge waste of time and money and drains all your free time and turns you grey earlier then you should....BUT I LOVE IT LMAO.. Im a little burnt after 6 years but when i have no more time on my hands i will end up breaking down the tank

yeah definitely been noticing the large amount of people leaving the hobby. but at the same time I'd say that more people are coming on than people leaving.

I'm still on the edge of leaving just because of money issues. In the end the question is is it worth it?

if only I had money.

This is my grow out season. Where I cut a ton of frags and let them heal and grow to be ready for sales in the fall. Normal.

I like the way you say that sounds like you're growing a hydroponic version of something else.

@the op it's most probably the heat, the crash and the stress. It's why I got out for a year so I could better prepare.

I don't get it, I know ppl go outside more in the summer but maintaining a tank doesn't take up that much time does it? maybe 10 mins a day and 1/2 hours once every week for WCs? I can always do that right before shower so what gives?

My tank is 500g. It takes me 10 mins to stretch before my daily maintenance :).

Yeah every summer a lot of people leave the hobby everyone has different reasons mostly comes down to $$$ and time that people don't have I see it as a great time to get some deals on cheap high end equipment do some upgrades for cheap can't go wrong there . Imo u dont get rid of something u love . I see people on here that left the hobby years ago and they still on mr looking ,missing it every day now that's got to be harder then doing water changes :)
