beananimal overflow

So I am thinking of going with the beananimal overflow for my 40g breeder tanks. I am wondering if somehow I can use flexible tubing like spaflex to make is easier to run the tubing. Also what about using john guest fittings or unions so it is more modular as I will probably be moving in the near future? I want to try to get my parts list together and order everything I need this week.

I can't find this (3x $4.88 101015 (1.5" TEE PVC DWV)) on the savko.com site though.

Also any ideas on how to make this more modular and usable with flexible tubing coming off the stacks rather than pvc all the way down (since I will have the tanks stacked up on shelving) are much appreciated!

For a 40 gallon, using 1.5" is way over kill, and you really don't need beananimal. Herbie style is more than good enough. I have a 150g, using herbie style, with 1x1.5" drain, and a 1.5" an emergency drain with a 1800 gallon rated return pump. Flexible PVC is fine, but i had my hard plumb. good luck!!!

Can I do herbie out the back? I can't use the bottom. I was looking at the glass-holes kits but I heard they were loud and a member here can make my boxes. What size out and what size return would you recommend?

Those prices seem very high.

For the drain, it also depends on your return pump size rated for. For the drain two 1" should do it, one main, one emergency. As for return, how many return do you have, one? I have two return line that split from 3/4 to two 1/2" return. Works well for me.

Ok so if I am understanding this correctly if I want to do a herbie style overflow but drill the back rather than the bottom of my tank I am basically doing the beananimal overflow but eliminating the third emergency drain. Then I read some advice that I could use silicone instead of glue to put the pieces together so they can be changed or moved later. What about using spafllex tubing does that slide right over the pvc if I get the same size? I think I am starting to get the grasp of this, hopefully.

Would you recommend two returns? I am doing this to two tanks which will be stacked on shelving one above the other going to the same sump. Right now I have a Rio plus 3100 pump (but could get a different one if needed) that is rated to 690 gph @ 4ft and 500 gph @ 6 ft. The top tank will be at about 6.5 ft.

Siliconeing the fittings would not be a good idea.
