The problem is if some one buys it from the wholesaler then the wholesaler doesn't really care as there is no loss to them. The same goes for the LFS as if some one buys it, even at a discount, then the LFS doesn't lose anything and they don't care either. That why I asked Russ if he got the fish for free because if not it would have been better to leave it there and have it die in the wholesaler tanks. Everyone wants to save a fish that they see isn't going to make it but unless some LFS or wholesaler takes a loss they're just going to keep bring in the same fish over and over again.

I'd like to see the day when groups of hobbyists could force wholesalers to stop importing fish such as this one. if anything they should be a special request only.

I wonder if there is an government bureau of animal welfare/cruelty/well care which over sees this kind of import. I think a hobbyist group cannot be the standard since a lot of us are misinformed in the first place. We do add our experience and knowledge to the whole thing though. I know some other countries, they have a lot of checks on what can be imported and where can those be imported based on the method of catching them and the likelyhood of surviving in common hands.

I do not know enough about this orange spotted file fish so I am so far neutral to this.

Since it's in your hands already, wish you can find a way to keep it alive and grow well.

I would call any animal keeping a success only if we can propergate the species or else it's still just for our own glorifications.
