I thought this might be a fun thread to start, having just had such an occurance.

While feeding my daughter breakfast, I heard a horrible racket from the room next door (where tank is)

The racket was horrible. I did a quick assessment, and noticed Sharkie was missing!!!!!

I open the canopy, and there he is, flopping around making a mess. He somehow jumped up, knocking the tank cover away, and landed on top of the tank.

thank goodness I was home to nudge him back in.

see how it works:splitspin

What size tank is he in? He may have been pacing, or stresssed due to size constraints. Sharks are really cool but remind me of alligators in that they are nice pets when they are babies. Once they get a bit older however, what do you do with them? I feel bad keeping tangs in a 90 I feel like they should have a 10 foot by 10 foot tank. Sharks need even more then that. I used to keep African Cichlids and they have very small territories in the wild. When you put them in a large tank you get to see their natural behavior because they have plenty of room. I feel like in marine aquariums you don't get to see that very much because one marine fish will occupy a territory larger then the tanks we keep them in. The guy who keeps Atlantis in Riverhead has some footage of really remarkable things that his fish do because their tank is the size of my apartment.

Maybe I'm going on a rant but your shark tank appears to small for this guy. Perhaps it's just the way that the photo came out. Glad to hear you were able to save him.

two times I've been lucky to be home:

1) float switch stuck and would have overflown my tank w/ an extra gallon of water

2) I have my heater stuck in my Remora Skimmer chamber. I turn off my skimmer when I feed phyto. If I forget to turn down the temp setting on the heater, and/or forget to turn back on the skimmer to let water flow by it, it overheats and the skimmer box gets hot to the touch!

I've forgotten to turn back on the skimmer 2x, then remembered right as I was leaving overnight- I don't want to think abuot what would have happened if I didnt' turn it back on!!! Melted skimmer? Tank temp would have plummeted!!

I used to flood when I made water and then decided the solution was to make water in the bathroom and put the buckets into my bathtub. All that good water...down the drain. But better than my floor and my neighbor's ceiling. (Which happened twice, but the super covered for me and told her it was a leak in the pipes. :grouphug: )

About 5 years ago, my vho end caps shorted and caught fire. All I have to say is thank God it was me and not my wife who caught it. Otherwise bye bye tank.

I had a snail crawl into the return of my CPR Aquafuge (I threw one into the fuge not thinking)... My wife and I were getting ready for work and she said she smelled something burning. I looked around the up stairs and nada...

Then I went down to the living room and I heard a fizzing sound, and a few pops... The CPR backe up because the the snail and started overflowing. It was pouring water onto a power strip which I had behind the tank...

Well after shutting everything down and cleaning up the mess I opened thew power strip and it was completely black... I was really freaked out... 15 morw minutes and we would have been on the train to NYC for the day.

welll I now know the electrical wasn't properly grounded there... so I need to some how get to that outlet and replace it and the wiring.
