If you only have soft corals, then you would only need water changes to give them all the supplements they will need. If you have LPS and SPS, you should be testing your water parameters before even attempting to just start adding anything into the tank. That way you know how much is depleted on a daily basis, and add accordingly.

Thanks....yes I only have soft corals but I a am not noticing any growth and other people that I talk to are telling me that theirs spread very quickly so I was wondeing if maybe something was missing.I use instant ocean salt.......46 gallon bow front, weekly 5 gallon water change.

too many variables... age of tanks, water quality... the more mature a tank, the more stable the conditions are... those are what is optimal for coral growth.
You cannot put together a tank, and think that ok now I want coral to grow... it just does not do that. When the conditions are optimal they will grow on their own. Just like coraline algae.... When a tank matures enough, the proper lighting is provided... and then you will start to see coraline growth. I'm not talking about shortcuts using additives... Just overall maturity of a tank will show what I am referencing.
