I think you guys are making this too difficult. The best way to test it would be to use one stable system. Then use one set of lights for 3 months, the next light for 3 months, and the next light for 3 months. Then compare before and after photos to see the differences. You could also perform this test simultaneously over several tanks with different combinations of the lights to remove any testing error. Also, each tank would need a control for 3 months with say a MH or T5's as the control.

That would be just as difficult. Unless 3 neighbors have the three brands and live in close proximity to the tank used for the grow out. Otherwise there's traveling involved and people having to switch and have less lighting while their lights are in a strangers house.

Plus we all know tanks will have not so hot months where under the same lights there's less growth than usual. So then what happens when and if that happens? The lights that are on it for that time period will take the heat when it wasn't the lights fault at all.

We have AI sol blues and Fathom LEDs and T5's all on different tanks on one system. We would be interested in helping solve this debate....

I think that is the most viable option out of everything that is discussed. Perhaps an equal sized frag of several different corals in the same spots with the same eggcrate structures and the same water flow (powerhead placement ) ....weekly pictures. Same light cycle. That would be interesting.

it might be if he got radions or AI the first day and said these lights are the best lights ever. they are the truth lol. people always jump on a item and give reviews way to fast. thats why i never listen to anyone anymore unless they put how long they had the equipment and what they used before

If I got AI's I would not be saying they are the truth, it would be more like "Damn! I bleached my corals now I have to post them in the for sale section like the other units in MR's For Sale Section." Exodus!

funny i had AI for almost a year and not 1 sps bleached. maybe instead of hearing 2nd hand stories of people who put the lights up 100 percent as soon as they got them and tried them yourself then i can take you a little more seriously. and giving a review on how these lights are the "truth" 2 hours after they were installed shows me maybe your reviews on equipment should be taken with a grain of salt  im sure these lights are great just like 10 other brands that are just as good. just tired of people bad mouthing something never had

This is why your review can't be taken seriously. If you knew any better, you'd know the optics used in the Pharos are very close beam wise to the 40 degree optics used in the AI Sol. You would also realize they use some of THE SAME leds, with the Pharos running at a higher power. If you weren't contradicting yourself, there is a good chance your coral would be dead by now.

Jimmy customizes the optics as needed. He swapped out optics for me sitting at my dining room table...

Best,

I've seen this thread for a long time, I'm up to page 10......

For those just joining us, I will take the time to now take a quick break to summarize what has happened thus far.

1. OP is one hell of a happy customer who took the time to give credit to the seller, decided to share his joy in this wonderful, fun friendly:rolleyes: online environment.

2. Start of a debate. Small business LED builders vs. The Big Boys...AI Ecotech etc.

3. Things escalate.

4. WHOS BETTER??? I AM! No I AM, NO **** you my LED IS THE BEST. F*** your LED company they suck!:tank::smash::smash::tank:

Seriously.....who gives a crap who's freaking lights are better? OH! Nobody!

Opinions are like a$$holes. Everyone has one.

Have a great day everyone.

I think anyone interested in switching to LED's would be very interested in all debates and info given on any systems out there to help them make the right choice in how to be happy with where they choose to spend their money.

Absolutely correct. I am still interested in leds for my 150 build. It was a toss up between fathom, wingo, AI's and a couple other brands..

ive had the fathom led lights for about a month now (had t5's before). I was looking at all the options when i was shopping for lights and a friend of mine on this forum told me to give the guy from fathom a call. I've never had AI'sor Radions nor did i have many corals when I had the lights installed so I can't really comment on comparing brands or growth spurts either. What i did notice right off the bat was the huge difference in clarity and color . Also the customer service which was probably the best out of anything i have ever bought. The owner came by with 4 different units, all with different angles (45,60, 80)just to show me the difference and pros and cons for all. He also measured witha spectrometer the intensity of my t5's and then the fathom led's and gave me exact readings at different depths of my tank. He asked where i planned to go with my tank to provide me the perfect options possible. He also brought over different types of optics and described all of them. I dont remember most of them but to name a few there was diffused, clear, and i think a slightly frosted optics and also described the pros and cons for each one. After finally choosing my options, he installed them over my tank for free. The dude would not take a dollar from me even after i kept insisting. If there are any issues, upgrades, and or software updates, he personally will come over and install it. Now that's customer service you can't put a price on. Not to mention I wanted to buy a 3rd unit and he advised me that it was not necessary and i was getting all the coverage i needed out of 2.

Lastly, he takes some of my rubble rock with him and offers to frag some pieces of stuff that's growing like crazy from his own tanks and bring it back when an update happens.

This dude really has an insane passion for this hobby. And he genuinely cares not only about my satisfaction of his product, but also the welfare ofthe livestock in each of the tanks with his lights. He's a really knowledgeabl eand helpful dude. That's y i went with Fathom LED's.

As for performance, I got a lot of softies in there now and a couple of test sps frags at the top. Gimme a month or two and I'll comment on growth. As for now all i can say is I'm completely satisfied with my purchase as I'm sure other people are whether they have AI's radions or whatever. If you want mol readings i got them written down somewhere at home and i gotta find it . hehe. As for which brand is better? I'm not gonna even go there. I'm happy with what i got and that's all that matters to me.

Happy new year everyone....

That's actually pretty cool. It's a lot of useful info that other companies leave out when looking at led fixtures.

I originally looked into these lights myself. The only thing that I didn't like that is missing from the lights is the output within the 400-430nm region, ~490nm, and ~660nm. Cree leds don't hit those very well.

Very few led fixtures hit all of these possible photosynthetic peaks compared to most MH/T5 setups. For instance, despite the name, the KZ Fiji Purple T5 has quite a bit of 660-670nm (red) in it. It brings out a lot of red color in coral and fish, and was always a favorite bulb of mine.

The Pharos Fathom Led's are not what you think bro. The optics are not the same as the AI's.
