I currently have a 120 gallon with 250 raduim halides ,which I love ..I will soon be upgradeing to a 300 gallon marineland which is 72"x36"x27 .I'm thinking of doing leds on it ,I thought I wanted Vegas after doing some reading seams like the sol is a better choice for a deeper tank ,to me the sols don't have enough shimmer .I seen a 300 gallon with radions which looked pretty good ,then I set up a 60 gallon cube for my bro and he went with the kessil a350 which I have to say is awsome I love the shimmer and color it puts out but I'm not sure if the kessil will handle a 300 gallon ,a friend of mine told me to check out the vertex illumina also ,so basically now I'm totally lost on what to go with .help me choose

I am also weighing my options for both my 40 gallon breeder and my 180.

I have not looked at LED's since I had just bought a 400W Metal Halide set-up for my 180 about a month before LED became the craze! I spent over $1,800 on my fixture, a real shame, because I could have gotten an LED set-up for about the same and would have saved more than twice that in electricity since!

Best,

Alfred

John, that looks like a pretty reasonable option for a large tank. I'm on the fence as well. Gotta decide between 14 new t5 bulbs or switching to LED. It's tough to change because I'm really getting good growth and color and for $250 I'm good for another 10 months.

James, I lost a lot of stuff over the summer when I went away. I have struggled with breakdown and boredom of tank. Will probably change lights before I restock. It has been stupid to run MH for my fish.
Your tank pics look great. I would leave it alone.

After sitting through Sanjay's talk on lighting I think the term "required spectrum" has been overhyped in the industry. The full spectrum of visible light is used to photosynthesis. The idea that we need much "bluer" light is a myth.

If this helps at all I'm going back to MH/t5 combo. I have the AI sols running now, tried the Radions and the Maxspect. I will never go back to LEDs, such a let down and I have been disappointed with them.

Orphek-DIF-100-XP-LED.jpg

Orphek DIF-100 XP these things are awesome and 3 units would be more than enough to cover that 300. We use the regular DIF-100s on the 300gal display reef at Fauna. Most people think we're running halides until you show them the LEDs hanging there.
