Wow! I won one of the new Orphek PR72 pendants at the swap. I don't think it would be good enough for my 40 Gallon breeder, but after seeing your photo I may experiment with it!

Best,

Alfred

Orphek DIF-100 XP these things are awesome and 3 units would be more than enough to cover that 300. We use the regular DIF-100s on the 300gal display reef at Fauna. Most people think we're running halides until you show them the LEDs hanging there.

Only down side to LEDs is usually every coral i get is from a MH tank and no matter how long i try to get the coral adjusted by starting them low they do lose there color in a adjustment period especially wild corals. It takes a few weeks to a few months for them to regain there color. Thats why people get rid of them they dont realize the corals need to adjust to the light. I have patience and it worth it in the long run.But they do regain there color and sometimes they are prettier then how you saw them in the persons tank with the MH

Alfred, did you get an adapter for the PR-72 or do you still need the replacement plug? I'm not 100% which optics were on that unit but it is essentially 1/2 of a 24" Nilus unit. You would be surprised how capable these LEDs are.

I don't know if you've seen this or not...
http://reefbuilders.com/2012/11/07/ghl-mitras-ecotech-radion-ai-vega/

There are also several other comparisons out there between the top LED manufacturers. I just got my Mitras yesterday afternoon and haven't even hung it up over the tank yet, so it's too early for me to speculate. I did a lot of research and read everything I could find that I felt was useful info. Check out the "owner's club threads" as well, I've found that they are the best threads to find complaints/issues. Ultimately, I've heard too many complaints about AI, Radion, and the Illumina.

Not going to post links to other forums, but a google search of comparisons between them will give you a vast amount of info/opinions.

You wont hear a complait from me concerning the AI. i love them. Like i said people put them on there tank and in 2 months they get rid of them because they dont give the corals enough time to adjust to them

I should added there are people that are happy with all of them, then there are those that have them and supplement them w/ T5/MH for optimum coral color. I personally feel it's silly to have to supplement. Of course with any light change there would need to be an appropriate acclimation period, which is why I said I couldn't give my personal input on them. There are many that had them over their tanks long term and still weren't happy. That's why I made my personal decision the way that I did. That's all. :)

I can say dukes a friend of mine and his tanks got great color he runs 3 sol blues on a 92 corner tank ,the only thing I don't like about the units is there's not much twinkle and being a halides guy I can't give that up ,the nicest led ai far that I've seen is the kessil to me it looks exactly like the 20k raduim bulbs im using now ,I'm just not to sure if the a350 would be good on a big tank

I'm not at all knocking Duke's tank/lighting choices, please don't think that...I'm not that type of person. Was just throwing some info out there that I found on LED comparisons. I've never seen his tank in person, but I do follow his thread and his tank is absolutely gorgeous. It's one of my favorite tanks on MR, actually.

Regardless, of your lighting choice...please give us updates...really interested in the end results.

All I have to say after keeping corals since 93 including SPS MH is the optimum choice, I have given certain LEDs a chance for over a year and they just don't cut it. I will never go back, I was fragging almost 300 worth of frags a month, it is down to 50 if I'm lucky. I put T5s back on my small tank both color and growth have picked up drastically

:) your my new best friend on MR  but jaa your right nothing beats MH for growth but im not in this hobby for the money or for fragging im in it for enjoyment and giving me something interesting to do on my spare time which i have plenty of :) LEDs give me the look i want, the electric bill i like and the flexibility to create whatever spectrumi like. I can also say i have been to peoples houses with MH and my color is sometimes better then theres and growth really isnt that far off

I'm not in it for the money either, most of my frags were given away and many members can attest to that, as far as spectrum I can match anything the AI sol blue can do with MH and T5 combos. I have already done it for the most part, you can get a little more pop from the deep blue led but I like the natural look as I would find in the wild, not into the generic black light look. Although I can get pretty close with the 4 T5's if I wanted it.

That isn't our display tank in the pic. I'll see if I can get a good video to post of it when I'm back in on Friday. The "twinkle" is better than the 400w halides that were on it before we upgraded.
