A few pointers...
1- it will take you WAY longer to do than you think (guaranteed)
2- move your fish out of the tank into something that has - a heater - an airstone and a COVER
3- do replace or rinse your sand well
4- do be sure to put your rock down before you add the sand back
5- do have extra heaters, buckets & water you will need more than you think
6- have a cover ready for the new tank, if you don't already. Your fish will get spooked in a new home, they are not as excited about this as you are!
7- write a checklist/plan and follow it
8- do things like pump cleaning, probe calibrating tonight
9- all water buckets should have a heater in them
10- make extra water
11- take pics for us :)

Good luck with the transfer!!

I agree with everything except I have to add one more detail. DO NOT RUSH. I have done upgrades and downgrades and moves in a day. But I took the whole day. The last thing I added was my livestock when everything was set up and running. If you rush you will lose things. Take your time.

willbe doing the same soon, this is a good thread to keep in mind...however im transferring 2 tanks into 1 so it'll be a little easier since i can empty one tank of rock first and leave the fish in and then do the other rock while fish is still in....i have a 75% new sand bed of used sand that will be rinsed thoroughly (any tips....i was thinking run a hose through it and then pour old tank water over it before adding it in ) and then i will layer the rinsed sand from current setup over the new sand and some will go in sump/fuge...2/3 of live rock being used is coming from current set ups and then i have some that i need to bleach and cure or was thinking of putting in tank the day before with some dr. tims and then adding another 100+ of LR from current set ups and i think i should be alright
