Might not be the right spot for this.

Yesterday my wife, calmly, waits for me to go upstairs, she has something to tell me. My daughters were watching a movie on my TV in my bedroom. The little one (5 YRS old) has told my wife that the (8yr Old) sprayed perfume in my week old tank. Juicy Couture, to be exact. I confront the 8 yr old and she denies, cries and then tells me Daddy it was to make the tank smell nice! She proceeds to tell me that she only sprayed 8 times!

I ask her for the bottle to see the label and she hands me an empty bottle that her and her sister were just playing with, It was empty all along!

So what is the punisment for making a reef smell pretty?

no punishment , i think thats just true child hood incense trying to make your tank smell nice. a long time ago my cousins 10gal was cloudy, his 4year old son said he fed the fish. my cousin asked what he fed them, and innocently said a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a glass of milk. now how can you punish a child for that. just teach them not to touch the tank. i always liked that story. may my cousin rest in peace.

No punishment. Just a nice educational talk about the reef tank, live animals, caring for them, how they depend on us, teach her to never ever put anything in the tank ever again, tell her you forgive her, and give her a hug.

Just educate her about why it smells (if it's in the cycle) and how many chemicals don't mix with fish tank. Furthermore, you should really her what ever the case, spray the perfume in large quantity is a big practice. 8 times and it finishes the bottle? It must be a sampler.

Hi,

Set up the Biocube again - Have a post of it on the site.

http://www.manhattanreefs.com/forum/reefs-beginners/137334-biocube-set-uo.html

Tank really doesn't smell, they were making everything smell pretty, even the dog. The bottle was an old empty bottle so they really could not spray that much into the tank.

She did her first water test that night, explained the cycle process to her and the 5 yr old , she just wanted to watch. Made them write it down in my journal. So this could peak their interest and make them enjoy the hobby a little more.

it is so nice to have a tank agai after a year and half. I saved the botttle to remember the event and how much I love my kids --- and tanks.

Glad to make a few people laugh!
