Just do the hyposalinity and 9 weeks QT. Rid your system of the ich. Keep 2 QT tanks, one for fish and the other for corals/inverts/rocks. Everytime you get a fish or coral, put them in the respective QT tanks for 9 weeks (also observe for other pests) before putting them into your main system and you should be ich/pest free (ideally cause there are those instances when pests still make it through).

+1 only way to rid tank of ich permanently

Its the only way but you need to have three tanks running on separate systems.
The DT
The QT for fish
The QT for coral, fully lit with reef capable lighting.

This is impractical for most reefers.

Ya and I'm still not convinced keeping a tang in a ten gal tank with weekly watter changes for two months is something I personally want to do.
In a ideal world we would all have large fish rooms and the ideal set up's:thrash:

Ps. I currently don't have a tang

personally id go with a 20 gallon rubbermaid....its light easy to store and has more space plus it could be used for other uses if you no longer need it

Keeping a tang in a 10 gallon tank is not ideal but not all that stressful either. At least not as stressful as ich. if you have the flu sitting in bed starving all day is not "ideal" but it's the best way to get rid of it. A QT is not a place for fish or corals to thrive. It's just a halfway house. lol

There is no food that rids of ich to date.. Hypo/copper only options.. I've been dealing w tangs for 14 years.. I hope they do have a med or food that will do this one day but so far it's all snake oil..

Chloroquine Phosphate is used to kill malaria and has been around for quite some time. It's hit or miss and no where near as effective as copper or Hypo. As for it being included in food, the problem with that is the dosages, as it all depends on how much the fish eats. If they don't eat it, then the dosage is going to be off. You'll find some people have had success with with Dr G's food, while others haven't or people have had the ich return after sometime. So, it maybe a case where it's not really Dr G's food working but something else and it just makes it look like it was Dr G's food that was doing it.

Like I said, Chloroquine Phosphate isn't new and has been around for a long time, it's also used to treat malaria. It's hit or miss and doesn't work nearly as well as copper or Hypo, so most people will use either copper or Hypo. As for Dr G's food, you'll find a lot of hit or misses with it, partly because you can't measure the dosage, which is a real problem. You'll also find that some people have had relapses of ich when using it. Most of the other medicate foods don't work, as they just build up the fish immune system, which lets the fish fight off the ich, but doesn't kill the ich.

Like I said if someone is going the medicated fish food route and isn't able to set up a qt because of space, money, time issues and wants to use medicated food dr g is the best bet..
And I know Chloroquine has been around for a long time I've been using it for 15 years
Also some people have relapses using any method for ick..
