I am basing my advice on what I've tried before. Obviously this is at your own risk, but maybe just a little more info- how large is the tank? Are we talking about a 40 Breeder on a 55 Gallon flat top stand or something larger?
I had a 40 Breeder on 48" flat top stand for 6+ years and never had a problem. Again, in my opinion the stand I was using was built strong enough to hold the weight (about 460 pounds filled).
In the end, while it is best to use a size appropriate stand for your aquarium, use you best judgement based on weight and quality of the stand.
I didnt get anything yet thats why i asked i was looking at a set up on here but i dont think my sump will fit so i was asking if i could get a bigger stand.i was gonna get a 40 breeder amd stand but the sump wont fit mabe ill get another sump because getting a 48 inch tank means more money for lights and other stuff might be cheaper to just get another sump i got a brand new ruby 36 sump i wanted to use. So the bigger stand wont be a good idea?
What brand stand did you use .what u did is exactly what i wanna do so i can fit the sump .im not much of a carpenter but i can pro add some braces to support the middle i can add some pices like floor joists for support.
Steve, stand for your aquarium size is pretty easy. A lot of our member build their own stand. I too build my own stand for my previous 180, 150, and current 150g tank. And i'm not a handy carpenter either. Where are you in Queens, i can probably help you a bit if you need.
