I've had it with the cyno, cycle or not this stuff is not going away. it's a bacteria so I'm treating it like one.
I went along with the directions, pulled the carbon, turned off my skimmer and PO4 reactor, and added and airstone. then I added 16 scoop's one for every ten gallons in my system.
I know it can come back, but if it dies off for a little bit it will give me the time to get my water as clean as possible. the only thing left for me to do is get rid of the remaining PO4, other then that I can't change any more water than I am already, I'd have to up it to 50% a week, that would be crazy. I did notice the cyno going away a little bit. by that I mean it was not growing back as fast as when I last pulled it out. I'm also going to order the other product JBNY on RC recommended, I forgot the name. It's something that you use all the time and it out competes the cyno.

that's the stuff cali_reef,

I'm going to order it and use it after the chemi clean.
Have you continued using it, will it part of your tank full time.
I read in Joes thread that he uses it all the time.

I have used Red Slime Remover from Ultra Reef. It's an antibiotic and it works great. Mike from NyAquaria recommended it to me a while ago when I had my 20 long. I dosed to tank per the directions and the stuff was gone over night and didn't affect anything. After 2 days I did a partial water change and put my carbon and phosphate remover back. Also your skimmer might have party but it wasn't bad.

it's the long term results we need to worry about.
aside from the cyno my tank was doing fine.
I don't want that bacteria coming back.

well I looked at it this way, cyno is a bacteria, and these products are basically anti-biotics.
so my logic is people take anti-biotics all the time, why not a reef tank. It has a bad cold, cyno, so medicate it

the down side is if the cyno comes back, it could mutate into a form that's resistant to the medication, then your screwed.
I'm going to try the speacial blend as well. why not fight bacteria with bacteria. if you can't beat them join them, hehe.

Update:

by the way my tank is now clean of the cyno, I can't find any.

I turned the skimmer back on, it's making some wet skimmate, I'm just going to leave it alone and let it do it's thing.

all the fish and coral look the same, nothing looks like it had any adverse effect to the chemi-clean.

For those that used it, how many people applied the second dose. The instructions say "if needed".

Also how soon would you put carbon back in the system? right away?

spykes, you said you had some cyno come back, how long did that take? and did you introduce any new coral pieces after dosing? I'm thinking that maybe some cyno could have been on the rock and repopulated the tank.

If there is any cyno bacteria left alive in my tank I would need a microscope to find it.

so Jonathan, you use the special-blend chem on your tank? How long it took to get rid of all your cyno??

I'm planning to dose some into my tank too, to get rid of some cyno on the sand and rock..

tom, I've not used it yet, I just medicated the tank with chemi-clean. Now I'm ging to begin using the special blend as a preventive measure to keep the cyno away for good.
