Hello every one new to the site but not the hobby:smile: I need some help with some research on angels. Can different types of angel coexist e.g bicolor angel and flaming angel or any-other combinations:help: ?

welcome i wouldnt put the pigmy angels together. there are some that can co exist but some like the flames and coral beauties do not co exist well. they will go to the death usually unless you have an over sized tank with plenty of rock for hiding so territorial spaces can be respected. LOL but true
anyway welcome to MR

250gal. tank, my understanding about angels in the same tank the general rule if they look alike same color is not a good idea. I was shopping for angels on saltwater.com and they had a article which read you should have only 1 angel fish in your tank....

i find the best chance of putting angels of similar size n color together is if they r intro at the same time. else the new angel usually gets attack. some will defend themselves better than others. notorious for wimpy are golden, regal, any really small size....
big tank n lots of caves, crevices holes will increase chance of surivival. i wouldn't put the same species together unless its known a pair
no rule is set in stone. 250 gal,u can have more than 1 definitely.

First are we talking about Larger angel or pygmy angels. For what it's worth it's easier to put together a large angel and a pygmy. Also size difference is very important. It's much easier to put together two angels, where there is a big size difference. You need to make sure that the more aggressive angel is larger, because if it isn't, when it grows it will attack the other angel. The less aggressive angel will usually fall in-line and be submissive to the other angel. There was still be some fighting but what will happen is one angel will be in charge.

The Smaller, pygmy angels, could be a problem mixing them together, reguardless of the tank size. Some of them are very aggressive and don't like others angels in the same tank, while others aren't really a problem. You need to look at each pygmy angel differently before you place them together. If possible it's better to place them together at the same time. Also depending on the size of the tank you can place pairs or even more then one of the same pygmy angels together.

It really depends a great deal.
First of all, a large angel and a pygmy should be no problem at all.
Second, I personally feel that a tank your size could accomodate 2 pymys. I might avoid flames. they tend to be more aggressive.
I also think you could get 2 large angels. I would just avoid similar species (i.e. imperator and blueface).

FWIW, I have a queen, imperator, and flagfin in my 420. I've temporarily added a regal with no problem.

Temporarily?!? Is this how you catch a Regal in a 420g?

Here is my experience. My tank is 72" long but tall total 400G. I think the length of the tank is more important. I have a regal angel since day one. Then I added a flame angel a few months later. The regal was chasing him and tried to beat him up. But the flame was able to hide in and out of the rocks so no big damages done. Now, they get along much better than before but still an occasional quarrel. I added a potter's angel recently and the flame did the same thing like the regal did to him. But again, he was able to hide and escape. Now all three get along pretty well. I think having a long tank with lots of hiding space will definitely help. In your case your tank is most likely 96" long, right? I think it should be OK.

I have a 6"+ Queen, 6"+ imperator, 5"+ Koran, 4"+ blue face, a 3" Flame, and a 4"+ Swallow tail in a 180 gallon, there are also about 10-15 other fish in there. I am looking to put in another 1 or 2 large angles. Those who have seen my tank can tell you if the fish looks healthy or not.

The key is to get healthy specimens, take your time finding them and place the least aggressive fish in there first. I like to buy my fish after seeing them for my self and is fairly sure it is disease free, I try not to buy them based on seller's word they eat, looks great..blah blah blah.. Most fish store\business if out to sell the fish as quickly as they can and will say what ever to sell the fish. Those fish never survive for me.

Make sure you feed them a variety of food once they start to eat, mysis or brine shrimp along is not good.

I do think you should go with only one dwarf angle, they are mostly mean fish.

FWIW I have a flame and CB in my 180, they fought a little in the beginning but now no problems. I did add the flame last and smaller than the CB to try and limit the aggression. Plus neither pick at the corals, well yet anyway.
