The skimmer thread on this site has gone over the top. This thread was so good, that it has over 26,000 views and over 960 posts. People from RC are comming to this site to look at it. Now, going along with the tank threads, how about a forum dedicated to equipment, such as skimmers/lighting/pumps, etc. I don't know exactly how this would work, but for example, the skimmer thread. How about a skimmer forum that is broken down into alphabetical order with the name brands of skimmers used with the same reviews and in action photos. This way, rather than trying to dig through a thread as large as that one has grown, you can look at Deltec for example and you can see a thread on deltec skimmers, how members set it up, how it works and what they think. You can even make DIY skimmers a thread.
The same can be done for any equipment.
I would also like to see forums on fish, maybe broken down into the same alphabetical threads using it's common name first, followed by its scientific name with photos to ensure it is the fish someone was looking for and a care sheet, members experience with them and also a subforum on disease control.
And last, a forum on coral nutrition, disease and propagation.
I know that there are numerous websites that will contain such information, but sometimes they are wrong, misleading, or difficult for your average dumba$$ like myself to understand. I think this would be a great way for people to share experiences. Most of us would rather talk to someone who has experience in certain topics.
I do not know if these would do better as subforums of other topics like "advanced reefs". I just think the talent definately exists here where we can get some good, informative discussions. Sure, there will be some debates. I've just seen to many topics just like this go away after 2 days iin the general discussion forum, only for someone to ask a related question in 2 days anyway.
Maybe, I'm thinking too big. You may have tried this in the past and it didn't work.
I like the community that this site has become. Overall, no matter what you do, thank you for all the work you have put into this site. Admins and mods have done a great job and I'm very happy to have met pretty much all of them as well as several members.
