My tank -2 yrs running, bio cube 29, skimmer tune 9002,AI SOL

I change water 5gal every weekend

Today, I filled a litte SW from my tank to bucket and put 2 rocks in it while I was little clean up in rear (not sand) and also catch chrmois.

Then put rocks in and fill the tal SW water up.

Approx 2 hours later, starfish died and few LPS release some kind of white web like melting shrink...

What the heck happen??

SPS looks fine to me

Do starfish cause this?

I just changed brs rox carbon to re fresh. 2 tbsp in a mesh bag.

I tested- Alk 8.6, cal 430, 1026, ph 7.8, slifert nitrate .02, phosphor 0.02 Hanna checker

Help :(

Thanks

Starfish should be taken out in water. What kind of starfish was it? I could have died right away and taken 2 hours to start to breakdown. Sponge will also cause problems if exposed to air, but your parameters are all good.

Large water change can sometimes cause a huge spawning event. That can foul water and cause cloudy water too. It would irritate livestock and corals, like the LPS.

Starfish, it has tiles on body..its very beautoful purple/orange.

Yah it has some sponge on rocks..

Yeah it's a bit cloudy and is starting to clear up slowly..

I removed the rocks and put it in bucket with SW like 3 or 5 seconds :)

Could I do water change now or wait till tomorrow :( ?

Thanks

Sounds like a fromia starfish. They aren't very easy to keep. Starfish do not do well if exposed, even for a very short time, to air. It may have been weak and then died???
